SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to Privileged Discussions, The intro pretty much sums it up. The podcast analyses how current affairs and events are shaping global trade, and it will provide alternative perspectives on the issues. And I'll be inviting some very interesting people onto the show as well, many of them world experts in their fields. I heard that about half of podcast listeners listen to podcasts in their home. But whether you're at home, or in the car, or in the gym, or just walking the dog, and wherever you are, Welcome to the series. So what's different about this particular podcast? Global trade and business issues can be pretty dry subjects at times, with far too much technical speak that only experts can understand. This podcast aims to talk about these subjects, but in an interesting and informative manner, using plain English when necessary, in a way that aims to be accessible to everyone, and to experts alike. And I'll aim to consider interesting international trade and business issues from a different angle, where appropriate, drawing upon the arts, history, economics, even philosophy and other subjects, which also fascinate me. So why privileged discussions? Let's take each word in turn. Firstly, privilege, in the sense that I intend to have great guests on the show. I intend to invite some pretty eminent and knowledgeable people here, and I don't intend it to sound cliched, but it is and will be a genuine privilege for me to interview them and to share their thoughts with you. And since global trade matters can touch upon legal issues, privilege can also be used in the sense of legal professional privilege. But don't consider what we're going to be discussing a secret, and do feel free to tell as many people as you want about the podcast so it can grow. And as well, do Discussions in privileged discussions, because of course a discussion means talking about something and I'm intending on talking about a lot of topics that will interest you. But a discussion as well means a detailed treatment of a subject and I'm intending to analyse certain points in depth with you. I'll even be considering whether some of the concepts that we will analyse can be used and applied more generally in your everyday and personal development. In some future episode or episodes, I'll be aiming to explain why and potentially how. And if you like the podcast, please do follow it so you don't miss any episodes. Until my guests appear, I'll mostly be joined on my podcast by a cup of tea or coffee, depending upon the time of day. And so, what do I bring to the table? Or the coffee table, should I say? Well, I'm a lawyer myself, and I've previously practiced as a barrister in London and in France on international customs and VAT matters, but no longer practice as a barrister now. I now practice in Europe as a French attorney, advocate, and have done so for many years, mostly concerning international issues and international affairs. And I'm a partner in one of Europe's largest commercial law firms. But I don't want to talk too much about myself, and especially in the first episode, Until the next episode. Until the next time. Until the next time. If you're listening to this, then thank you for having listened to the podcast from beginning to end. If you like it, do subscribe so you don't miss any episodes and feel free to leave a rating. This will help others find it. And if I didn't mention a legal caveat, then I wouldn't be worth tuppence as a lawyer. So here goes.
